This a summary of the diary of Princess Arana, wife to the once Lord of Shana, Weidlow.

The diary begins when Arana was 16 years old and had just been promised to become the future bride of the young prince Weidlow. At first Arana was furious because she had no desire to be wed to one she didn't know, but that was quickly fixed. Luckily for her Weidlow was of a similar mind, but knew it was fruitless to try and fight his father in this matter. No one ever won against Bloody Uldow. He thus went about the business of getting to know her and try to win him over.

Eventually Arana realized that yes she did love the prince. The wedding was a grand ceremony, and the details of which take up a large portion of the diary. Arana did not make an entry regularly, only when important events that required her to further explore her thoughts arose, and this was one. She was expected to act as a princess, something she was trained to do. However the nausea of dealing with representatives from other governments was almost more than she could stand. She did not wish to even touch the skeletal looking knight that came from the Empire, and the Cambion from Toth also horrified her. The Shanapsi and the LoreKeepers say that their gifts are genuine and will not cause harm.

The problem of the prince being away from home worried Arana. He was always needing to be away, travelling to the main cities. Also as a prince he was expected to use his skills to protect the kingdom. More and more raiding parties from seaborne pirates and the Empire were coming into the cities. She organized a personal bodyguard that would allow her to travel with her husband.

Watermarks blur the next section. It details the execution of Lady Pemelto, one of the Arana's ladies of waiting. Days she begged Uldow to spare her and her family. It was only a rumor that they plotted to try and take what they thought was theirs, the Rulership of Shana. Why did Shandow have to die without naming his heir? Will the horror of the Illblood wars ever end? Will the time come when Uldow is known again by his old name, Uldow the Righteous? Does Omne still care for his once faithful paladin? She prays much to Omne and the other gods of this world to turn Uldow from his bloody path. But in the end, the Ruler executes Pemelto and her entire family, even though they too have the blood of Shana running through their veins, and Uldow and Peremar played together as children. What would Shana think of her children and those who rule her land? Have we taken the same path as the Emperor and become a land of evil?

The next section is filled with words of anger. Uldow was right, and she hates him for it. Lady Pemelto was giving her something that kept her barren. How could one so loved do such a thing? But the horror of that time is done now, and soon a new child will be born. He will be a great prince, like his father. I will teach him to be good and just so that he never need bloody his hand as his grandfather has. My son is born! I shall name him Shandow, so that that royal name might continue!

A fight with Weidlow about the best method to raise the child. No, he shall not be sent away to the Shanapsi even though he has the gift. If the Prince wants his son to learn his father's craft, he will have to teach it to him himself. It was different when Weidlow was born, for at that time Shandow still ruled, and Uldow was not even considered heir. But a future Ruler will not be secluded from his parents. Arana apparently won this argument, with the backing of Weidlow's father also. He distrusts the Shanapsi.

The next large section details the many small details Arana put down in writing about raising her son as he grows. 5 years pass. The next to last entry: Uldow is sick. Weidlow is going to see his father. It may be the last time. Am I ready to become a Ruler myself? Will the needs of court change the time I have with my son? Is my husband ready to take on such rulership? I believe so. He is a master of his craft, and well respected by all. He is feared by our enemies. Lord Torol boasts that even Kol would fear to meet our Prince in combat. I do not know about that, but it is true that my husband and Prince is a powerful man, well respected by all, and will be a great Ruler himself. Omne preserve Uldow however, for I do not yet want to share my love with the country.

The last entry: Uldow has recovered. Omne still loves his former servant. Weidlow is coming back. I am glad, for he loves his father too, despite the harsh words between them. I shall meet him and welcome him home. He will be happy to see young Shandow also. The rascal has somehow mastered the ability to snatch thoughts already, and has been mocking his nurses with knowlege they thought hidden. We will need to bring in Trained people now I fear. But those worries can wait. Tommorrow I meet my love.
